1930’s Cottage Renovation
This project involved the considered renovation of a 1930s cottage in Wollongong, transforming the home into a refined, contemporary residence while preserving the integrity and detail of the original structure. The scope was extensive, yet approached with restraint. Much of the existing home was retained, with carefully planned updates introduced to improve functionality, flow and finish without diminishing the home’s character.
Key architectural elements — including hardwood timber flooring, ornate ceiling cornices and original beam work — were meticulously restored. These heritage features now sit comfortably alongside a series of modern interventions, such as custom-made French doors, quartz benchtops and contemporary joinery integrated throughout the home.
Respect for the home’s history guided every decision. From material selection through to the placement of skylights, the approach prioritised sensitivity to the existing fabric of the building while enhancing liveability.
Internal spaces were reconfigured to improve circulation and create more generous living zones. The kitchen was redesigned to work cohesively within the original structure, with durable quartz surfaces selected for longevity and everyday use. Custom skylights were positioned to introduce natural light deep into the home, adding warmth and comfort without compromising the cottage’s character.
The result is a home that feels both timeless and current — a renovation that honours its origins while confidently supporting contemporary livin
